Another Black family is grieving. Another community is demanding justice. And once again, we’re asking: why is accountability so hard to find when Black lives are lost?

On April 6, 10-year-old Jordan Hill was riding his ATV on the side of the road in Liberty, Mississippi, when he was hit and killed by a pickup truck. The driver, Cody Rollinson, fled the scene—and Jordan was found dead shortly after.

Rollinson was arrested, but only hit with charges for marijuana possession and leaving the scene. Nothing connected to Jordan’s death. He posted bond and was released the same day.

Jordan’s family? Heartbroken—and furious.

“This was not a misunderstanding. This was not an accident. This was a hate crime,” said Hill family spokesperson Marquell Bridges.

The family believes Rollinson, a white man, targeted Jordan intentionally. While investigators haven’t officially labeled the incident a hate crime, outrage is growing—especially after social media users pointed out troubling inconsistencies in Rollinson’s case.

Allegations say Rollinson was driving on a suspended license, had weed in the car, and had a history of DUI. Yet, somehow—no charges for manslaughter? Make it make sense.

“Even if it was an ‘accident,’ he should be in prison. Period,” one commenter said.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still reviewing toxicology results, and they’ve said more charges could follow. But for many, that isn’t enough—not when a child’s life was taken and the alleged driver walked free within hours.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe for Jordan’s family has already raised over $6,000, with donations and calls for justice still pouring in.

This is bigger than one case. It’s about a system that continues to fail our babies. We’ll be watching—and so will the world.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Jordan Hill. We speak your name.
