Raven-Symoné has entered the chat—and she came with facts, experience, and a little shade.
In a recent sit-down with Jason Lee on The Jason Lee Show, Raven made it crystal clear: she was never in competition with fellow Disney alum Miley Cyrus. Why? “I’m almost 40. I don’t compete with people younger than me,” she said with a laugh. But beneath that was a serious message—Raven had already built her name long before Disney gave her a sitcom. She’d been on The Cosby Show, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, and hit star status by the time That’s So Raven launched in 2003.
But the real convo came when she pointed out that Disney didn’t fully amplify her resume the way they did for others, even when the talent and history were undeniable.
“Obviously, you chalk it up to skinny, white, and the foundation was already built,” she said, referring to how Miley's image and background may have helped fast-track her stardom.
Fans had plenty to say online. Some agreed Raven had the edge and legacy:
“Raven was the star of Disney!! She made a whole generation watch. "Others defended Miley, calling her a global pop star who earned her own shine: "So bored of this narrative. Miley’s always been that girl.”
Fueling the fire? Miley was recently named the youngest Disney Legend ever, beating Raven to the honor despite Raven’s decades-long contributions—from The Cheetah Girls and Princess Diaries 2 to directing episodes for the network.
But Raven is still grateful for her Disney journey.
“They like to hire me every now and then,” she joked in 2023. “They saw my passion for directing and producing, and they’re allowing for that to happen.”
So here’s the question: Did Disney overlook one of its OG icons in favor of flashier fame—or is the world just finally catching up to Raven’s genius? Drop your thoughts below. 👇🏾
